The Chippenham Produce & Craft Show was held on Sunday 8th September, and there were many talented exhibitors, from children with their friendship bracelets, poster designs, vegetable monsters & brownies, to those in the senior sections who cooked, preserved, took photos, painted, arranged, grew, baked & produced over 200 exhibits! < ?xml:namespace prefix ="" "o" ns ="" "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The most competitive class proved to be the Men’s Victoria Sponge Cake. In the run up to the show there were many lively discussions reported back to the committee, who were delighted by the response to this class. There were 17 entries (which was a huge tasting challenge for the judge), father and son rivalry, many new bakers to the show, and even a cake baked on a BBQ! Jim Smith was the delighted to hold on to his title as First Prize Winner, especially as the competition this year had been so much greater than 3 entries in the previous year.
There are many people who need to be thanked, the sponsors of rossettes, sashes & wonderful raffle prizes. The judges who had a really difficult task. Mike Banyard, Steve Proctor and Brian Drake for presenting the trophies. The new show committee & their family & friends, who gave their suggestions, time & support. And to Kevin Pallent for his very organised scoring!
Finally, a big thank you must go to Jennifer Wilson. Firstly, for many hours of polishing the trophies, and secondly for encouraging a few of us to get together to take over the committee. We are really grateful for all her advice and support.
The show committee would like to thank all the exhibitors & visitors who on the day gave support to this wonderful village event. We would welcome any comments about your experience on the day, or any suggestions you may have to inform or improve the show next year. Many of you will have now seen how easy it is to participate in this village event, we hope you you will join in the fun next year.
