East Cambridgeshire District Council has announced that its £5 million grant application to Central Government to improve recycling services has been successful. The funding will enable a change to wheeled bin services for both recycling and organics (food & garden waste) collections, and expansion of the range of materials collected

Wheelie bins could be coming to East Cambridgeshire People living in East Cambridgeshire could be getting wheelie bins. The district council have launched a consultation on proposed changes to the district’s waste and recycling service which could be introduced if the authority is successful in its £5million bid to Government.

A brand new state of the art recycling centre at Witchford near Ely will open its doors for the first time at 9am on Thursday 3 November. The new Cambridgeshire County Council facility will replace the old, small, open air site at Grunty Fen which will close at midday on
Due to the withdrawal of the can recycling service by the previous contractor and the on-going cost to the Council it has been decided to temporarily remove the can banks service from the Recycling Centres in the District and therefore the banks will be removed from all recycling centre sites
The contractor that previously emptied the banks (Pearsons) was taken over in November last year by Viridor who have looked at the cost to run the service and have decided to stop providing it, at present they are giving an end date of May however this is not yet confirmed.
